Worst foods for your stomach and digestive system. There are foods that cause stomach problems and these foods are considered as worst foods for the stomach. These foods can cause stomach upset, diarrhea, constipation, acid reflux, even colon cancer. Know about the unhealthy and bad foods for the stomach and choose your foods carefully.

Diet plays extremely important roles to keep the stomach healthy. Unhealthy diet leads to various stomach problems such as gas, bloating constipation, heart burn, diarrhea and other serious Gastrointestinal Tract or GIT diseases. A healthy diet is all important for immune system healthy. Poor diet and poor nutrition makes the body cells weak and as a result cells cannot perform properly. So, for performing all the functions optimally body cells need good nutrition. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is very important for keeping the digestive system and immune system healthy.  The gastrointestinal (GI) tract possesses many disease fighting invaluable resource and that’s why it is highly important to maintain a healthy GI tract. Therefore, eating healthy foods are a necessity for good digestion, healthy digestive system and overall health. But often we eat foods which are unhealthy and harmful for our digestive system. Most of these foods do not provide any nutrition and create problems for digestive system. Make sure you’re not having much of these foods as they can be a real enemy for your digestive system and overall health. Let’s find out the foods which are worst for your stomach and digestive system.

There are many foods which can be harmful for the digestive system. Given below is a list of the worst foods for your stomach and digestive health.

•    Hydrogenated Oils: Hydrogenated oils are extremely bad for the digestive system and overall health. Hydrogenated oils are made by chemical reactions by injecting hydrogen gas into oils at high pressure. These oils are made to prolong the shelf life of the oils. Any foods cooked in hydrogenated oils are extremely bad for the health. Hydrogenated oils and foods cooked in hydrogenated oils are very hard to digest. These oils contain trans fat and increase the chances of developing heart disease and colon cancer.

•    Fried Foods: Fried foods are hard to digest and they can cause various stomach problems including constipation and diarrhea. These foods contain high levels of fats and often cause stomach pain. Fried foods are irritating to the stomach as these foods are responsible for heartburn, gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD), gastritis and ulcers. You should avoid fried foods as much as possible.

•    Coffee: Drinking coffee can be bad for the digestive system because coffee can irritate the stomach lining. According to the studies, too much of coffee is associated with the increasing level of stomach acid which leads to digestive disorders. In addition, excessive amounts of caffeine can cause serious digestive problems including diarrhea.

•    Chocolate: Just like coffee, chocolate contains lots of caffeine and a plant chemical called theobromine. These two compounds increase the stomach acid and that causes heartburn. Chocolate is not a stomach friendly foods and it can cause indigestion, stomach pain vomiting and diarrhea.

•    Chili Peppers: Chili peppers can be dangerous food for the stomach. They are highly irritating to the stomach linen and responsible for heartburn & stomach pain. Chili peppers can cause chronic heartburn and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Researchers found that consumption of chili peppers on regular basis can increase the risk of stomach cancer. 

•    Lactose: Milk and milk products can cause stomach problems to those who are lactose intolerant. Many of us do not have the ability to digest lactose. Undigested lactose leads to stomach gas and bloating. People who are lactose intolerant- should have lactose free milk and milk product.

In addition, processed foods and high fat foods are bad foods for the stomach. Alcohol and soft drinks can cause digestive problems. For some people citrus fruit, garlic, onion and mint can be bad foods for the stomach as these foods have the tendency to trigger acid reflux.

Very good information and advice. I recently 'became' lactose intolerant as well as have a slight intolerance to several other food types, which completely changed my diet. It hasn't been a drama though. I now have much better health. A very good article Sourav.:-)

I cannot escape eating chili peppers even though I know it hurts the digestive system, I love it on veggies cooked with coconut milk. I even cooked the long green pepper with coconut milk with the red chili in it. Great article!
